The book "Verschütt gehen" is intended as a guide to "reading" the diverse natural and cultural landscape around the Dobratsch carefully and critically. Gerhard Pilgram and Gerhard Maurer, authors of the unconventional and successful hiking guide "Kärnten. Unten durch", invite you on a series of forays up and around the mountain in words and pictures, drawing your attention to the well-known and the hidden, to the beauties and some of the dark sides. In an area of no more than 150 square kilometres, you will find natural and settlement areas of astonishing diversity, unique cultural monuments, historical sites, unusual examples of everyday culture and remarkable examples of contemporary art. Articles on mining and industrial history, Slovenian culture in the lower Gailtal valley and the expressionists of the Nötsch circle make it clear that the Dobratsch region has more to offer than can be recognised from the summit.
