Vinko Avsenak, Karl Pallasmann and Marco Pascoli set out together in search of areas and places in Friuli, Carinthia and Slovenia that were previously little known or not known at all with regard to the fighting on the front in the First World War. The result of their research is a 250-page volume with numerous pictures and maps depicting the events at a selection of these "hidden places" between the Helm in the western Carnic Alps and the Adriatic Sea near Trieste. The authors found the majority of these hidden places in the difficult-to-access mountain world and in the lonely mountain valleys, where still unknown and interesting military installations can be seen. From May 1915 to November 1917, a decisive section of the Austro-Italian front was located here, where soldiers from various parts of Europe fought battles with heavy losses.
