This collection of folk and traditional songs from the Lower Gailtal valley bears witness to the many years of music education work of Franz Mörtl, the former choirmaster of the "Singgemeinschaft Oisternig", the long-time singer and musical director of the "5 Gailtaler". The majority of the songs listed here were once part of the customs practised throughout the year, which is why each chapter is accompanied by a historical and folkloristic essay written by Dr Peter Wiesflecker, a competent scholar of our region.
The songs documented here, many of which are already on CD, are intended to make it easier for all choirmasters, singers and people who enjoy singing to access the diversity of traditional cultural heritage from this interesting part of the Gailtal valley, not only in Carinthia but also in our neighbouring regions of Friuli and Slovenia.
