For decades, Friedrich W. Leitner worked on the major topic of "Carinthia and Bamberg" as curator of regional history and later as director of the Carinthian Regional Museum.

The book tells many exciting stories from the 750-year relationship between the Franconian bishopric and the Duchy of Carinthia. The Carinthian possessions were repeatedly pledged in order to bridge financial bottlenecks in the Bamberg diocese, and from the 15th century onwards there were several projects to sell them. With the Rezess of 1535, Bamberg sovereignty was largely abolished and the Bamberg territories were incorporated into the province of Carinthia.

For the Bamberg towns and markets in Carinthia, their episcopal ruler became a burden because they received little support from the Habsburg sovereign. Bamberg also increasingly lost interest in its external possessions in Austria, which had long since ceased to yield any income. Their purchase by Maria Theresa in 1759 was therefore the logical solution.

This book is the first comprehensive account of the 750-year relationship between Carinthia and Bamberg. It contains a large number of interesting stories about all the former Bamberg towns.
